Conegliano is located at the beginning of the rolling hills in the Prosecco Wine Route. A city of noble origins as well as great history that despite the passage of time offers a dynamic cultural vibe.
Leave your car behind and enjoy sightseeing the medieval palaces. The historical Conegliano spread along Via XX Settembre aka Contrada Granda and all the way up on the hill of Giano. Along this porphyry alley bounded by Dante Porta and Porta San Polo overlook the most fascinating buildings in the city.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata and San Leonardo set into the facade of the Scuola dei Battuti, famous for being the Veneto’s largest outdoor frescoes. Just behind the main altar you find the only art work in Conegliano of its Renaissance artist Giovanni Battista Cima, the Pala di Conegliano dated 1492.

Climb up to the Castle through the pedestrian alley along which you can visit the Convent of San Francesco and the sixteenth-century Chiesa della Madonna delle Nevi. The ruins of the castle host the interesting Museo Civico, Piazzale San Leonardo, +39043822871. Step up to the roof top of the tower overlooking the Prosecco vineyards and the old city.
Walk down to Piazza Cima and continue the walk to Porta San Polo to admire more noble palaces. Don’t miss Casa Longega of the fifteenth century with terracotta decorations and the former Monte di Pieta dating back to 1524, with frescoes on the facade by Ludovico Fiumicelli. Eventually, don’t miss Palazzo Sarcinelli, Via XX Settembre 132, an important venue for exhibitions.
Once you’ve seen Contrada Granda go back to Piazza Cima, and from there step down Gradinata degli Alpini. You’ll reach Via Mazzini basically the new Conegliano. You’ll notice the elegant shops of the city and if at some point you feel like you are in London, do not worry. Conegliano is famous for having a building covered with neon signs in a Piccadilly Circus style. Viale Gorizia leads to the Jewish Cemetery dating back to the sixteenth century, reflecting the strong Jewish presence in the city till 19th century. Every first Sunday of the month you can participate in a guided tour from 10:00 to 12:00.
To make the experience even more authentic, plan to visit Conegliano on a Friday during the weekly market. Allow yourself some time around the stalls and frescoed buildings. This will make your day. Are you a coffee lover? In Conegliano you find the Dersut Coffee Museum managed by the homonymous roaster and open every first Saturday of the month. The right place to discover and learn about the history and the tips of the best blends. Whereas the oenological school “G.B. Cerletti”, Via XXVII Aprile 20, is the testimony of strong wine-growing importance in the city.
