Running in Treviso? For some reasons you are in town, you need a run to wash away a stressful day but you have no clue where to go for it? Certainly today’s technology is extremely helpful to find the most common places for outdoor activities in town, but sometimes it might be not that easy. And so I selected as well as tested for you 3 running spots in and around Treviso.
All the options are in flat areas, so we do not speak of max nor min elevation, but only of distances and breathtaking views. Then let yourself be carried away by the curiosity of sightseeing the city without filters in your eyes and admire its own typical elegance and go!
The City Walls
A 5km long path most of it illuminated in the evening. A mix of dirt and asphalt road, also ideal for evening walks. The current version of the walls were built in 1500s to defend the city from enemy attacks, now they are ideal for those running or spending few hours outdoors to take a breath of fresh air. During the year they turn into a sort of stage for various musical, food and wine events. Well maintained and rich in history, they are surrounded by waterways and a park were ducks, rabbits and geese roam freely together.
Between Spring and Summer there is also a kiosk where you can indulge a relaxing break.
La Restera
A 12km distance trail, recommended during the day or even at night as long as you are not running on your own. Partially illuminated, it’s better if you get a frontal light. It’s a mix of dirt and asphalt ground.
The Restera are the ancient embankment roads where oxen used to pull the Burci, typical boats. Following this path you will pass nearby the Burci cemetery, maybe you can plan a short detour if the daylight allows it. A secluded area along the placid river Sile banks, which offers enchanting landscapes. The route is an integrated part of a much longer trail, which leads to the Adriatic Sea and is called the Greenway del Sile.
Treviso Parkrun
Treviso Parkrun started in Treviso since 2017 and takes place at the Parco dello Storga, in the city outskirts. A non-competitive race taking place at 9:00 on Saturdays morning. Anyone is more than welcome to participate in it, especially for those who love running and being outdoors. I joined it the first time in 2014 in Cape Town, ZA, and it was a wonderful surprise to find it here in Treviso. It’s not a competition, it’a all about wellbeing. It’s free and you just need to register in the website and then wear your running shoes and go. It easily reachable from the train station by taking the bus no. #7 towards S. Artemio and then 5 minutes walk to the Park entrance.
If you do not want to run on your own, you are more than welcome to join a group of runners. It doesn’t matter the weather conditions, they meet on Wednesdays at 7:20pm at the parking lot of the public pools of Treviso and then they run towards the historic center from September to April. Starting from May, however, they change areas, which are choose from time to time, and people are notified by the Facebook page – Corri Treviso Running Team.
Don’t you have running shoes with you, no worries at all, I have the solution for it as well! As wrong shoes can damage your joints along with the pleasure of running, I suggest going to the running shop specialist PASSSPORT in Signoressa (TV). Just outside the city outskirts, is a friendly and welcoming point of sale, where a skilled staff helps you to find out which is the most suitable style for you according to your body structure, type of running and distances you are used to. And if you are lucky enough the guys can even offer you an espresso. Are you in a rush? Then order them online and have them delivered to your accommodation!
