Veronese – The Exhibition

IT | Giorgione ospita il Veronese. Nel grazioso Museo Casa Giorgione si possono ammirare opere dell’artista Veronese e dei suoi collaboratori fino all’11 gennaio 2015. “Villa Soranzo, una Storia Dimenticata” inizia al primo piano del museo, quando s’incontra il tanto chiacchierato “Minerva tra Geometria e Matematica” in arrivo da Palazzo Balbi di Venezia.

Nella stessa sala, oltra al plastico e al progetto di Villa Soranzo, un video ricostruisce la probabile ubicazione del ciclo di affreschi. Spostandoci nella suggestiva sala del Fregio di Giorgione si possono ammirare una sequenza di putti, alla cui estremita’ appare in tutto il suo splendore “la Giustizia”. La mostra prosegue con opere di artisti che collaborarono col Veronese, tra cui il fratello Benedetto Caliari e suo figlio Carletto. Entrambi portarono avanti la bottega alla sua morte firmandosi Haeredes Pauli “Gli Eredi di Paolo”. Si arriva all’ultima sala dedicata al contesto territoriale del ‘500 in cui spicca un dipinto di Benedetto Caliari “Scene di Vita in Villa”.

Cio’ che non riuscivo a capire era la ragione per cui un’intera regione avesse dedicato un itinerario di mostre a Paolo Veronese. La risposta la troviamo oltremanica, poiche’ tutto nasce quando la National Gallery di Londra organizza la mostra “Veronese: Magnificence in Renaissance Venice”, che dal 19 marzo al 15 giugno ha incantato il pubblico britannico e non solo. Da qui la lampadina si accende e il Veneto, terra natale di Paolo Veronese, gli dedica un percorso che si dipana tra ville, chiese e palazzi in una cornice completa e per la prima volta unitaria. Un’occasione unica che non vorrete farvi scappare, vero?

EN | Giorgione Museum hosts the Veronese exhibit. The lovely Museo Casa Giorgione offer the opportunity to admire some works by Paolo Veronese and his collaborators until January, 11th 2015. “Villa Soranzo, a Forgotten History” begins on the first floor of the museum, when encountering the much-talked-about “Minerva with the personifications of geometry and arithmetic” coming from Palazzo Balbi in Venice.

In the same room, besides the model and the paper plan of Villa Soranzo, a video shows the possible location of the frescoes. On entering the impressive Giorgione’s Frieze hall you will be welcomed by a sequence of putti and at its end on the left-hand side you will be captivated by a breathtaking view of “The Justice”. The exhibition continues with artworks by artists who collaborated with Veronese, including his brother Benedetto Caliari and his son Carletto. Both carried on the shop after his death, by signing Haeredes Pauli “The Heirs of Paolo.” Last room is dedicated to the local context of the sixteenth-century, standing out a painting by Benedetto Caliari “Scenes of Life in Villa”.

Actually, I could not understand why the entire Veneto region dedicated several exhibitions to Paolo Veronese. To get the answer we have to fly to the UK, as everything started when the National Gallery in London organized the exhibition “Veronese: Magnificence in Renaissance Venice,” which from 19 March to 15 June enchanted not only the British public. The bulb lit up and the Veneto region, birthplace of Paolo Veronese, devotes a sort of itinerary that winds its way among venetian villas, churches and buildings for the first time in a unified frame. Such a unique opportunity that you cannot miss, can you?
